In January 2022, things just changed. Since then, I have initiated my journey of personal and professional development. A journey of questioning things and gaining new perspectives. My name is Tom, and I am a freelance User Interface and Experience Designer based in Hamburg, Germany. With the following text, I want to share my thoughts and ideas about something I can finally articulate and that I’ve dreamed of for a very long time.
My driving force is to create something by myself. I always imagined creating something that would impact other people’s lives and last for a very long time. Reflecting on my core values and the process I’ve made, I think I have finally discovered a way to embark on this journey.
So, let me introduce you to the concept of Supernoir.
What is Supernoir at its core?
It’s the belief that you can achieve anything by combining technology and design. This mindset allows everyone to develop original solutions that defy conventional norms. Being open and receptive to new ideas while leveraging collective expertise is what I call a non-static approach.
Static is not an option.
Today we’re all forced to constantly adapt to changing circumstances. Sometimes it’s easy, and sometimes it’s hard. Supernoir welcomes the change that technology brings to us. Why? Because this change has more influence on all areas of life than we think. For this, there is ECE. This initialism stands for Environment — Culture — Education.
Environment
We are all aware of the significant influence that the environment has on our behavior, which is why context matters. Everyone wants to feel comfortable, safe, and recognized, especially in a work setting. Besides the daily work and interaction with laptops, smartphones, social media, and other digital devices and services, I see human-to-human interaction in the first place. Spending too much time in the digital world drains your energy and makes you feel sad. Supernoir invites you to rediscover the analog world. The goal is to create an environment that grounds and liberates you — an environment where everyone’s voice is heard.
Culture
The thing with the so-called corporate culture is that it’s predetermined, rigid, and fixed. I envision a culture where people do not necessarily need to fit in but rather have the opportunity to enrich and contribute something to the culture, shape them together, and treat it like a dynamic entity that reflects their beliefs. Supernoir emphasizes the importance of creating an environment where individuals are not expected to conform but are encouraged to bring their unique perspectives and talents to the table.
Education
The secret recipe is to continuously seek knowledge, learn from one another, and evolve together. This state of mind not only cultivates a sense of social responsibility but also encourages individuals to contribute and adapt to changing circumstances, if necessary. This is why being static is not an option.
It becomes clear how vital these individual areas are and how they build on top of each other. They are basically the foundation of Supernoir.
What form does this journey take?
I firmly believe that great work can only be achieved within a good team. It’s not about making it all alone. It’s about inspiring people and rallying the ones who believe what you believe. Therefore I aim to share this vision with a multitude of like-minded people, as my aspiration is to collaborate with diverse talents and pioneers, leading to the creation of original work.
